The Bulgarian Fund for Women (BFW) has launched its annual “Mission: Possible” program, the only donor initiative in Bulgaria offering flexible, unrestricted core funding for the organizational and administrative needs of civil society organizations. The program is designed to enhance the internal capacity, autonomy, and sustainability of these organizations by giving them the financial stability to pursue long-term, strategic planning aligned with their missions. This edition reinforces BFW’s commitment to flexible, long-term support in response to the growing threats to civil society, human rights, and democracy in Bulgaria.
Implemented as part of the “Building an Inclusive Resilient Democratic Society in Bulgaria 2” (BIRDS in BG 2) project under the European Commission’s Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) program, “Mission: Possible” supports organizations that are explicitly dedicated to advancing the rights of women, girls, LGBTI+ people, and other marginalized communities. Eligible applicants must be non-profit organizations registered in Bulgaria for public benefit activities, and must work from a feminist or human rights-based perspective, addressing issues often overlooked or challenged in mainstream public and political discourse.
The program supports initiatives that lead to systemic change and empower vulnerable groups through sustainable organizational growth. It funds work in key areas such as feminist analysis, gender-based violence, democratic participation, climate justice, labor rights, and access to justice. Special focus is placed on organizations serving marginalized populations including women, LGBTI+ individuals, people with disabilities, and refugees. Funding can be used for strategic planning, team development, financial management, advocacy, and crisis preparedness, offering broad support to strengthen the social impact of these groups.
